Leading ‘big data’ analytics company’s valuation was being hindered, because investors were discounting future growth potential with only one targeted industry vertical. The company was challenged with identifying an expansion strategy that would align with its technology and core sales capabilities, and which would also take the position and behavior of competitive market players into account. We defined the total accessible market (TAM) for different targeted untapped industries or verticals. We provided market analytics, core capabilities assessment, and developed a framework for alternative strategic options, that guided the decision on how to best position the company in order to win in the new space. We laid the groundwork for executing on a vertical expansion strategy that would enable the company to enter specific verticals in the analytics app market, totaling over $10B+ in market opportunity.
